Improve your Sex life with Dental Implants
19/Jun/2006 01:38 PM
Today's topic is Dental Implants. According to
a study done in 2005, being fitted with dental
implants can have a positive effect on your sex life.
"In a 2005 research report, Heydecke et a, compared the impact of social and sexual activities by 102 adults between the ages of 35-65 years, before and after being fitted with dental implants, against people fitted with conventional dentures only. The research revealed that the subjects fitted with implant-retained dentures experienced a greater increase in comfort felt during kissing and sexual activity over a two month compared to those with normal dentures.
Patients reported that conventional dentures often became loose during activities such as kissing, eating and speaking, resulting in both embarrassment and discomfort. Of those participants who experienced loose dentures when kissing, more than 80% felt uneasy when kissing, and 70% felt uneasy when engaged in sexual relations."
Dental implants are a great way to replace teeth that are missing as the result of tooth decay, periodontal disease, or an accident. Implants look and feel like your own teeth. They are very strong, so you rarely have to worry about them breaking. Since they often are placed between other teeth, it is not necessary to grind down healthy teeth, as is needed in preparation for a bridge. For more Information click on Dental Implants.

What is a porcelain veneer anyway?
12/Jun/2006 02:42 PM
Today I am going to
talk about porcelain veneers. You may have heard
about these from friends or how all the Hollywood
stars have them. Hopefully we can give you a better
understanding of what they can do, how they are done
and what they aren't. Porcelain veneers,
otherwise know as laminates, are very thin coverings
that are custom made to fit over your existing tooth,
and are a great way to improve your smile. Porcelain
veneers can be used to whiten stained or dark teeth,
fix chipped or broken teeth, change misshaped teeth
or even re-align crooked teeth using a process called
instant orthodontics. Porcelain veneers are not the
old time "caps" that many people used to get. They
don't contain any metal, and are about .5mm thick as
compared with 2.5mm thick.
The consultation: The first appointment is a consultation to show you how veneers can change your smile. Together, you and your cosmetic dentist will pick a color, shape and size for your new smile. Impressions are taken for the laboratory to make a mockup in wax of your teeth.
Your cosmetic dentist will work with you to make any adjustments in their appearance. Once you have approved the mock up, the treatment begins.
The preparation: At the preparation appointment, your cosmetic dentist will numb your teeth with local anesthetic so that you are comfortable and don't feel any pain. Then the teeth are shaped with the dental drill to accommodate the very thin but very strong laminate veneer.
An impression is then taken to make a working stone model for the dental laboratory. Temporary veneers are placed on the teeth in order to protect your natural teeth. The temporaries are usually fabricated from the mock up to help you get used to your new teeth.
The application: At the cementation appointment, the temporary veneers will be removed and your new porcelain veneers will be fitted. Assuming that you are happy with the shape, color and overall appearance of your new smile, the veneers are permanently bonded into place.
Cost of porcelain veneers:Porcelain veneers are much more expensive than composite veneers, but can last 2 to 3 times as long as composite without discoloration. The average cost of porcelain veneers is between $1000 and $2500 per tooth.
Results: Your porcelain veneers will look, feel and work like your own teeth. With regular cleanings and good oral hygiene, you should keep your beautiful smile for 10 to 20 years or longer with your new porcelain veneers.

Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Dentistry, But Were Afraid To Ask
06/Jun/2006 07:01 PM
So, this is the first
of hopefully many once a week information sessions
about cosmetic and general dentistry. Each week I
hope to cover a different topic on what is available
to the public today in dentistry. A little history
about me first. My name is Patric Cohen, and I have
been practicing dentistry in Beverly Hills for the
past 22 years. I graduated from Stanford University
and went on to USC Dental School. Needless to say,
that has caused some family arguments during football
season. Anyway, after Dental school, I started
working with my grandfather, who was one of the
founders of cosmetic dentistry in the late 1940's.
Yes, contrary to popular belief, cosmetic dentistry
did not start with the ABC tv show Extreme Makeover.
I have a Doctorate of Dental Surgery, and I am a
Fellow in The Academy of General Dentistry. I also am
a member of the International Association of
Comprehensive Aesthetics and The American Academy of
Cosmetic Dentistry. OK, enough of the boring stuff.
Believe it or not, having your teeth worked on is not something that has to be painful. As a matter of fact, there are many options available today that can make it virtually painless. Some of you may have experience with nitrous oxide or laughing gas. A very safe, easy to used form of sedation. Once the gas is going, it feels like a two martini lunch, you are relaxed and ready to roll.
Imagine having all your dental treatment completed in just two visits. While the dentist is working, you are dreaming. No worries or cares in the world. Before your visit you are given a little blue pill to take that will sedate you through your appointment. This pill is known as Triazalam, and it is an extremely safe, short acting sleeping pill. When the work is completed, you go home, take a short nap, and you're back to normal.
For those of you who are ok with just Novocain, ask your dentist about The Wand. This is a computer controlled anesthetic machine that makes injections much more comfortable. In addition, many of today's modern offices offer Virtual Reality Glasses, so you can watch a movie while your dentist treats you. Most of us today are using tempurpedic cushions on our dental chairs to make them feel like you are sinking into a cushy bed. And many of the better offices have aromatherapy, so you don't have to smell those awful medicine type smells of the past. Feeling a bit of a chill, today's modern office will usually offer you a blanket to take the edge off.
Well, as you can see, there are a lot of options available to make your trip to the dentist much more comfortable. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me. If there is a subject of interest you would like to hear more about, drop me an email or place a comment in the comment feed. Check out my website www.dentalsedationcenter.com for more information about making your visit to the dentist a more pleasant experience.
